Anatomical Examinations of Selected Wood Species of Nigerian Genera in Anacardiaceae Family

Nigerian Anacarddiacea family was investigated in this study on the account of their inherent structures with a view to bringing fore those features that could facilitate identification towards proper utilization based wood quality. Mature species Lannea grandis, welwitchii, Mangifera indica, Nothospondis staudtia, Pseudospondias microcarpa, Sclerocarya burrea, Sorindeia trimeris, Spondias mangifera, mombin and Trichoscypha acuminate were got from Forestry Research Institute Nigeria herbaratum, Ibadan. Wood samples sectioned into cross sectional, tangential radial sections about 20μm thick using Reichert sliding microtome. Photomicrographs taken digital camera mounted light microscope at 40 ×. The results showed vessels large all except species, staudtia acuminata. Body ray cells procumbent one row upright and/or square marginal but be up four rows trimeris. Generally, septate fibres, silica,crystals gum observed almost yet, fibre pits mombin, L. grandis not as bordered they acida, S..mombin S. mangifera can separated account. It also appears rays storied only trimeris grandis. In aspect utilization, some expected possess fine texture, lustrous patterns regions failures result high rays.
